Based from our own experience, we recommend that you ask these questions to your installer. These questions
will help you to be aware of what is going to happen.
Step 1: Describe to the installer on what you want to do
Some questions to ask yourself:
Is this a new construction or a retrofit project?
If this is a retrofit, are you planning to enlarge the opening for bigger doors?
For a retrofit, do you need your installer to provide a complete turnkey service with trim work and
painting included?
Tell your installer of what you are trying to do!
Step 2: Ask the installer background questions
Q. Are you insured and licensed? What is your insurance coverage? Can you send me an insurance proof?
Q. Do you provide any installation warranty? What is covered under the warranty? How long?
Q. Have you ever installed Iron Doors? If yes, how long? If no, how long have you been installing entry doors? Tips:
If your installer have never installed iron doors, but have installed entry doors, they should have been installing for
at least 5 years.
Q. Do you provide a free measure service? When can you come over?
Step 3: During meeting

After your installer has inspected your jobsite, ask these questions.
For a retrofit project:
Q. Can you tell me exactly how you will go about replacing the doors?
Q. Do you have to remove the interior trim and/or exterior trim?
Q. If yes: are you going to reuse the old trim or are you going to provide a new trim material?
Q. Are you going to caulk the trim?
Q. When installing the trim, if the nail holes are visible, what are you going to do?
Q. Are you going to paint the trim? If yes, what is the color of the paint?
Tips: If you have the original paint, you may want to provide it to the installer.
Q. If there is a dirt mark or scratch mark on the wall surrounding the door after installation, what are you planning
to do?
Q. What kind of insulation material are you going to place between the door frame and house framing?
Q. Inform your installer that our doors have 1.25" clearance from the bottom of the door sill to the door sweep,
ask your installer how are they going to set the door on the floor so that when the doors open, it does not catch a
rug (if any) placed on the finished floor?
Q. If you have door bell and security system switches, ask how you are planning to reinstall it when replacing the
doors?

Q. What do you place on the floor to prevent scratches on existing floor?
Q. Do you touch up the door if there is any scratch?
Q. How long will it take to perform the job?
Q. What are you going to do with the trash and the old doors?
Q. Ask if they would like to see Abby Iron Doors installation instruction? If yes, ask your sales rep to forward an
instruction to your installer.
For a new construction project:
Tip: Normally the installer will only install the doors and not perform any trim work.
Q. Can you tell me exactly how you will go about installing the doors?
Q. How long will it take?
Q. If a trash dumb is not available, what are you going to do with the trash?
Q. If you need the door security system switch to be installed, ask if the installer can do it?
